Selling in Uzbekistan: distributors, retail and marketplaces
Uzbekistan has the largest population in Central Asia and a fast-changing economy, with growing retail, housing construction, industry and online trade. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are the two largest markets of the region. Our group already runs businesses in both countries and works with local partners there.
Uzbekistan is an observer of the Eurasian Economic Union, not a member, and applies its own national certification. It is also negotiating membership of the World Trade Organization and is bringing its technical rules in line with WTO requirements, so rules change often and need checking per product.
How B2B buying works in Uzbekistan
Buyers are importers and distributors, wholesale companies and markets, retail chains, sellers on online marketplaces, developers and builders, and industrial companies. Tashkent is the main trading centre; Samarkand, Bukhara, Fergana Valley cities and other regional centres are supplied by distributors and wholesalers. Many importers already buy from China and look for suppliers who deliver stable quality and complete documents.
Business is personal and often in Russian or Uzbek. Buyers expect visits, samples and quick answers. Because Uzbekistan has no sea access, buyers pay close attention to the delivery route, transit time and total landed cost, and they prefer suppliers who can explain these clearly.
What Chinese suppliers often get wrong
A frequent mistake is to assume that EAC certificates or EU documents are enough. Uzbekistan has its own national conformity assessment, and since 1 January 2024 the earlier exemptions for products imported from certain countries no longer apply. Products on the government lists need labelling in Uzbek, the state language; without it, they cannot get a certificate of conformity or a sanitary conclusion. EU test reports can still help as evidence for local certification. We check the requirements for each product with our partners before the first shipment.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need EAC certification for Uzbekistan?
No. Uzbekistan is an EAEU observer, not a member, and applies its own national certification. EAC or EU documents can help as test evidence, but local conformity documents are issued under Uzbek rules. We check each product.
Do labels need to be in Uzbek?
For products on the government lists, yes. Without labelling in the state language, these products cannot get a certificate of conformity or a sanitary conclusion. We prepare Uzbek label texts with our partners.
What is the VAT rate in Uzbekistan?
The standard VAT rate is 12%. The importer pays VAT on import.
How do goods get from China to Uzbekistan?
By rail or road through Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan, since Uzbekistan has no sea access. A direct China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway has been under construction since December 2024. We compare routes and landed cost with the buyer.
Do I need a local company?
No. Local importers buy from your factory and handle import, VAT and certification. Contracts are signed between your factory and the buyer.
How long until the first order?
We cannot promise a date. Importers who already buy from China can decide quickly once price, samples and documents are right; certification can add time before the first shipment.
