Selling in Albania: distributors, retail and marketplaces

Albania is an EU candidate country on the Adriatic, with its main port at Durrës and a growing tourism sector. Tirana and Durrës together hold close to 40% of the population and are the main distribution centres. Albanian importers often also supply Kosovo and North Macedonia, where Albanian is widely spoken.

We serve Albania on request, from our team in Poland, through importers and partners, after checking the rules for your product in the market assessment. Contracts are signed in your name, and you see every buyer in the shared CRM.

How B2B buying works in Albania

Buyers are importers and distributors in Tirana, Durrës, Vlorë, Shkodër and Elbasan, wholesale companies, DIY retailers such as Megatek, electronics and appliance chains such as Neptun, GoTech and Globe, supermarket chains, hotels and resorts on the coast, builders and installers. Retail is still dominated by small private shops, many of which sell Italian and Greek goods, but shopping malls and chains are growing.

Local partners matter. Using an agent or distributor is not required by law, but most foreign suppliers find it more efficient than selling directly. Many Albanian companies are family-owned, buy in small volumes and decide quickly once they trust a supplier. English is common in first contact with importers.

E-commerce is still at an early stage. Shoppers prefer physical stores, cash is still widely used, and card payments are less common than in the EU. For a Chinese factory, the main channel is therefore B2B: importers, wholesalers, retailers and hotel suppliers.

What Chinese suppliers often get wrong

A common mistake is to assume that EU rules apply automatically or that nothing applies at all. Albania is not an EU member. Under the consumer protection law, labels must generally be in Albanian and show the product name, manufacturer or importer address and quantity. The importer is responsible for applying Albanian labels before the product enters the market, and sticker labels on foreign-language packaging are accepted. National product rules are being aligned with the EU; EU test reports are a strong basis, but we check the local requirements per product.

How we approach Albania

Our team in Poland researches importers, wholesalers, retailers and hotel suppliers in your category, prepares the offer in English and, where useful, Albanian, and follows up every contact. Goods can travel by sea from China directly to Durrës, or by road from stock in Poland. Import and labelling are handled with the importer. Contracts with buyers are signed in your name, and every introduced buyer is registered in the shared CRM. See distributor search.

Frequently asked questions

Do labels need to be in Albanian?

Yes, in general. The consumer protection law requires labels in Albanian, but the obligation falls on the Albanian importer, not on the exporter. The importer can apply Albanian stickers on packaging with foreign-language labels before the goods enter the market.

How do I find distributors in Albania?

We research importers, wholesalers and retailers that already sell your category in Albania and contact them in English or Albanian. You receive a short list with notes, and every introduced buyer is registered in the shared CRM.

How do goods reach Albania?

Most maritime trade goes through the port of Durrës, so full containers can be shipped from China directly. Smaller lots can travel by road from stock in Poland. The Albanian importer clears customs and pays import VAT.

Do I need a local company?

No. Local importers buy from your factory and handle customs, VAT and labelling. Contracts are signed between your factory and the buyer.

Is Albania worth it for a Chinese factory?

It can be a good addition to sales in the region, especially for building, home and hotel categories, with lower competition. Orders are usually small and e-commerce is still young. The market assessment shows whether your category has enough buyers.
