Selling in Azerbaijan: distributors, retail and marketplaces
Azerbaijan is the largest economy of the South Caucasus. Importers in Baku supply retail, construction, hotels and industrial companies, including the energy sector, and Baku is a key point on the Trans-Caspian route between China, Central Asia and Europe.
Azerbaijan is not a member of the Eurasian Economic Union and applies its own national system of technical regulation and conformity assessment, with its own national tariff. We serve Azerbaijan on request, through importers and partners, after checking the rules in the market assessment.
How B2B buying works in Azerbaijan
Buyers are importers and distributors, wholesale companies, retail chains, online shops, builders and fit-out companies, hotels, and industrial and energy-related companies. Most trade is concentrated in Baku, with distributors supplying the regions. Many importers already buy from China and Türkiye and compare offers on price, delivery time and documents.
Business is personal. Azerbaijani is used for everything local; Russian is widely used in trade and English is common with younger managers and in the energy sector. Buyers want samples, clear prices in US dollars and quick answers, and they often ask for exclusive rights in Azerbaijan.
What Chinese suppliers often get wrong
A common mistake is to assume that EAC or EU certificates are accepted as they are. Under the Law on Technical Regulation, in force since 27 May 2020, conformity must be assessed before goods are imported. High-risk products need a certificate; medium- and low-risk products need a declaration of conformity from the manufacturer, approved by an accredited body. A certificate issued abroad must first be recognised by an accredited body in Azerbaijan, and certified products carry the national conformity mark. Labels in Azerbaijani are needed where rules require. We check each product before the first shipment.
How we approach Azerbaijan
We look for importers that already handle similar products, and for project and industrial buyers where your category fits. Our team in Poland prepares the offer in English and Russian, with Azerbaijani product information where needed, and follows up every contact. Conformity and import steps are handled with the importer. Contracts with buyers are signed in your name, and every introduced buyer is registered in the shared CRM.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need certification to sell in Azerbaijan?
It depends on the risk class of the product. High-risk products need a certificate; medium- and low-risk products need a manufacturer’s declaration of conformity approved by an accredited body. We check which applies to your products.
Are EAC or EU certificates accepted in Azerbaijan?
Not automatically. Azerbaijan is not an EAEU member, and a certificate issued abroad must be recognised by an accredited body in Azerbaijan before import. EU and other test reports are useful evidence for this.
How do goods reach Azerbaijan from China?
By rail through Kazakhstan and across the Caspian Sea to Baku, or by sea to Georgian ports and then by road or rail. We compare routes and landed cost with the importer.
What language should offers be in?
English or Russian works for most importers. We add product information in Azerbaijani where labels or documents require it.
Do I need a local company?
No. Local importers buy from your factory and handle import, VAT and conformity steps. Contracts are signed between your factory and the buyer.
What is the VAT rate in Azerbaijan?
The standard VAT rate is 18%. The importer pays it on import.
