Seasonal and Christmas products: selling to European buyers
In seasonal goods the calendar decides everything. European buyers choose their Christmas ranges in the first months of the year and want the goods in their warehouses by autumn. We bring your decorations, lights, gift sets and seasonal items to wholesalers, chains, garden centres and corporate buyers in time for that window.
How European buyers buy seasonal and Christmas products
Christmas is the largest season, but not the only one. Easter, Halloween, summer garden and party goods, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day follow the same pattern: buyers choose the range many months ahead and expect delivery well before the shops open the season. Products include tree decorations, artificial trees, fairy lights and light figures, candles and candle holders, gift packaging, textiles and seasonal tableware.
For Christmas the typical calendar looks like this. Christmasworld in Frankfurt at the end of January is the main European fair for decorations and festive products; the 2027 edition runs from 29 January to 2 February. Between January and June buyers compare samples and place orders. Containers leave China in summer, goods arrive in European warehouses from August to October, and retailers sell from November. A supplier who sends offers in September is a year late.
Seasonal buyers take a risk: what is not sold by 24 December stays in stock for a year. That is why they prefer suppliers who offer clear prices early, keep the delivery date, and allow smaller first orders or a mix of designs per carton. Wholesalers with stock in Europe can also reorder bestsellers in autumn — a factory or partner with stock in the EU gets those late orders.
Our group sells Christmas gifts and seasonal products in Central Europe every year, for retail and for corporate gift buyers. We know how early the decisions are made and how much a missed delivery date costs.
Suppliers fail most often on dates and electrical safety. Fairy lights and illuminated figures are electrical products with CE requirements, and they are often checked by market surveillance. Decorations that look like toys also cause problems. Correct documents and realistic delivery plans are the main reasons buyers reorder.

EU rules for seasonal and Christmas products
Seasonal products are consumer products: GPSR always applies, and electrical items need CE marking.
| Rule | What it means for you | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| GPSR (EU) 2023/988 | Every decoration, candle and gift must be safe, carry traceability details and name an EU economic operator on the product, packaging or document. | Our EU company can act as the responsible economic operator under the EU Compliance package. |
| LVD, EMC and RoHS for lights | Fairy lights, light figures and illuminated decorations need CE marking, a declaration of conformity and tests, usually to EN 60598-2-20 for lighting chains. | We check test reports, plugs, transformers and IP ratings for outdoor use. |
| Batteries and WEEE | Battery-powered lights fall under the Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 and WEEE; registration in each country of sale. | We arrange WEEE and battery registrations through verified partners. |
| Toy Safety Directive: decorations | Festive decorations are listed in the directive as products not considered toys. But a decoration that is clearly designed for children to play with can be treated as a toy. | We review designs that may be seen as toys and recommend EN 71 testing where needed. |
| Candles | Candles must be safe under GPSR; buyers expect fire safety warnings to EN 15494 and tests for burning behaviour. | We check warnings and translate them for each market. |
| REACH | Restricted substances in plastics, glitter, paints and textiles of decorations. | We ask for chemical test reports and flag risky materials. |
| Packaging and EPR | Packaging EPR in each country and the PPWR from 12 August 2026; gift packaging is packaging. | We arrange registrations and check packaging labels. |
This table explains the requirements. Final conformity assessment is the responsibility of the manufacturer and, where required, accredited bodies.

Frequently asked questions
When do European buyers order Christmas products?
Mostly between January and June. Many buyers choose ranges at Christmasworld in Frankfurt at the end of January, and goods must arrive in European warehouses between August and October. Offers sent in autumn usually reach buyers for the following year.
What certificates do Christmas lights need for Europe?
Christmas lights need CE marking under the low voltage, EMC and RoHS directives, with tests usually to EN 60598-2-20. They also need WEEE registration, and battery models fall under the Batteries Regulation. An EU economic operator must be named under GPSR.
Are Christmas decorations toys under EU law?
No. Festive decorations are listed in the Toy Safety Directive as products not considered toys. However, if a decoration is clearly designed for children to play with, authorities can treat it as a toy, so plush figures and similar items are often tested to EN 71.
How do we find Christmas wholesalers in Europe?
We search and qualify them for you: seasonal wholesalers, chains, garden centres and corporate gift buyers in Poland, Germany and nearby countries. We contact them in the buying window and introduce only suitable ones. You see every contact in the CRM report.
Can we get orders after the summer?
Some, but mostly reorders of bestsellers from stock in Europe. Shipping from China in autumn is usually too late for retailers. Stock in our warehouse in Poland lets you take part in these late orders.
Do you sell other seasons than Christmas?
Yes. Easter, Halloween, summer and party goods follow the same logic, with decisions six to nine months before the season. We plan each season separately in the sales calendar.
