Selling in North America (USA, Canada): distributors, retail and marketplaces

The United States and Canada are among the largest import markets in the world, with big retail chains, strong online sales and professional distributors in almost every category. For goods made in China, however, US tariffs have changed several times since 2025, and the landed price must be calculated carefully.

Our home base is Europe. For North America we work on request: we find importers and distributors, prepare offers and follow up contacts, while customs and product certification are handled with the local importer. The market assessment first checks duties and rules for your products.

How B2B buying works in the USA and Canada

Buyers are importers and master distributors, wholesale distributors, retail chains with their own sourcing teams, online sellers and brand owners, and industrial buyers. Large chains often buy through importers or vendors that hold product liability insurance and handle compliance testing. Many US importers already know Chinese factories well and compare offers in detail.

Business is fast and documented. Buyers expect complete specifications, test reports, clear lead times and prices in US dollars. In Canada, product labels for consumers usually need English and French.

What Chinese suppliers often get wrong

The most common mistake is quoting with old duty rates. Section 301 tariffs on Chinese goods remain in force, at 7.5% to 25% on most covered products and higher on some. Tariffs introduced under emergency powers (IEEPA) in 2025 were struck down by the US Supreme Court on 20 February 2026, and other measures have followed. The duty-free treatment of low-value shipments (de minimis) ended for all countries on 29 August 2025. Rates change often, so check current rates for your customs code before every quote. Product rules are also strict: FCC rules for electronic and radio devices, CPSC rules and third-party testing for children’s products, and safety certification by recognised laboratories that retailers often require for electrical goods.

How we approach North America

We focus on importers and distributors that already buy your category and can act as importer of record. Our team prepares the offer in English (and French for Canada where needed), with your test reports and specifications, and follows up every contact. Customs, duties and certification are handled with the importer. Contracts with buyers are signed in your name, and every introduced buyer is registered in the shared CRM.

Frequently asked questions

What tariffs apply to Chinese goods in the USA?

Section 301 tariffs remain in force, mostly 7.5% to 25% and higher on some products, on top of normal duties. Other measures have changed several times since 2025, including a Supreme Court ruling on 20 February 2026 that struck down IEEPA tariffs. Rates change often, so we check current rates for your customs code before every quote.

Do I need FCC or UL certification?

FCC rules apply to most electronic and radio devices. UL is one of several recognised laboratories; safety certification for electrical goods is often required by retailers and by workplace rules. We check what your product and buyer need.

What does the CPSC require for children’s products?

Children’s products need testing by a CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory and a Children’s Product Certificate issued by the importer or manufacturer. Many general consumer products need a General Certificate of Conformity.

Do you have an office in the USA or Canada?

No. Our home base is Europe. For North America we find and contact importers and distributors and prepare offers; customs, duties and certification are handled with the local importer.

Is North America a good first market?

For most factories that work with us, Europe comes first. North America makes sense if your price still works after US duties and you already have the right test reports. The market assessment shows this before you commit.
