Selling in North Africa (Morocco, Egypt): distributors, retail and marketplaces

Morocco and Egypt are the two main import markets of North Africa. Morocco has close trade links with the EU and a growing industrial base; Egypt is the most populous Arab country, with large demand in construction, home goods and consumer products.

Both countries control imports closely. Morocco checks regulated industrial products before customs clearance; Egypt requires many consumer products to come from factories registered with its export and import control authority. Our home base is Europe. For these markets we work on request: we find importers and distributors and prepare offers, while customs and conformity are handled with the local importer.

How B2B buying works in Morocco and Egypt

Buyers are importers and distributors, wholesale traders in Casablanca and Cairo, retail chains and hypermarkets, online retailers, contractors and industrial companies. Many importers are family businesses that already buy from China and Türkiye. They negotiate hard on price and payment terms.

In Morocco business is done in French and Arabic; in Egypt in Arabic and English. Buyers want to meet in person or by video, see samples and understand exactly which documents the supplier provides.

What Chinese suppliers often get wrong

Many suppliers ship before the import documents are ready, and goods are held at the port. In Morocco, regulated industrial products, such as electrical appliances, toys, building materials and textiles, must pass a verification of conformity, and for many of them a certificate of conformity from an accredited body is needed before shipment. In Egypt, factories that export listed products, such as toys, cosmetics, kitchen utensils, clothing and footwear, must be registered with GOEIC before the goods can be released, and sea and air shipments need advance cargo information (ACI) registered by the importer before loading. We check the requirements for your products and prepare the documents your side must supply.

How we approach North Africa

We look for importers that already handle your category and know the local procedures. Our team prepares the offer in English and French, with Arabic product information where needed, and follows up every contact. Customs and conformity steps are handled with the importer. Contracts with buyers are signed in your name, and every introduced buyer is registered in the shared CRM.

Frequently asked questions

What is GOEIC factory registration for Egypt?

Egypt requires factories or trademark owners that export listed products, such as toys, cosmetics, kitchen utensils, clothing and footwear, to be registered with GOEIC. Without registration the goods are not released. The application needs company documents and a quality management certificate.

What is ACI in Egypt?

ACI is Egypt’s advance cargo information system. The importer registers the shipment and receives an ACID number before loading; the exporter must be registered on the system too. It has applied to sea freight since October 2021 and to air freight since 1 January 2026.

What documents does Morocco require for imports?

Regulated industrial products must pass a verification of conformity. For many products a certificate of conformity from an accredited body is needed before shipment; others are checked on arrival. Whether a product is regulated depends on its customs code.

Do you have an office in Morocco or Egypt?

No. Our home base is Europe. For North Africa we find and contact importers and distributors and prepare offers; customs and conformity are handled with the local importer.

How are payments usually made?

Letters of credit and documentary collection are common, especially in Egypt. New buyers may also pay a deposit with the balance against documents. The buyer pays you directly.
