Selling in Latin America (Mexico, Brazil): distributors, retail and marketplaces

Mexico and Brazil are the two largest economies of Latin America, with large consumer markets, big retail groups and fast-growing online sales. Both are demanding for importers: Mexico raised duties on many goods from countries without a trade agreement from 2026, and Brazil has a complex tax system and its own certification bodies.

Our home base is Europe. For Latin America we work on request: we find importers and distributors, prepare offers and follow up contacts, while customs and conformity are handled with the local importer. The market assessment first checks duties and rules for your products.

How B2B buying works in Mexico and Brazil

Buyers are importers and distributors, wholesale companies, department stores and retail chains, online sellers, builders and industrial companies. Mexico is closely linked to the US market, and many buyers there also supply factories and projects. Brazil is a very large domestic market with strong local producers, so importers look for products with a clear price or technology advantage.

Business is personal and done in the local language: Spanish in Mexico, Portuguese in Brazil. Offers in English are accepted by large importers, but product information, labels and manuals must be in the local language. Buyers expect visits or video calls, samples and patience in negotiations.

What Chinese suppliers often get wrong

Many suppliers quote with old duty rates or ignore local certification. From January 2026 Mexico raised import duties, up to 50%, on more than 1,400 tariff lines from countries without a trade agreement with Mexico, including China. Many products also need to meet Mexican NOM standards before import. In Brazil, import costs include several federal and state taxes, and products such as toys, appliances and many electrical goods need INMETRO certification, radio and telecom devices need ANATEL approval, and cosmetics and health products are regulated by ANVISA. We check duties and rules for your customs codes; certificates are issued by accredited bodies, usually with the importer.

How we approach Latin America

We look for importers that already handle your category and have experience with certification. Our team prepares the offer in English, with Spanish or Portuguese product information, and follows up every contact. Customs and conformity steps are handled with the importer. Contracts with buyers are signed in your name, and every introduced buyer is registered in the shared CRM.

Frequently asked questions

What duties does Mexico charge on goods from China?

From January 2026 Mexico raised duties, up to 50%, on more than 1,400 tariff lines from countries without a trade agreement with Mexico, including China. Rates depend on the customs code. We check current rates for your products before the offer.

What is NOM certification?

NOMs are Mexican official standards. Many products, for example electrical goods, toys and textiles, must meet the relevant NOM and its labelling rules before import. The importer usually arranges certification with an accredited body.

Do I need INMETRO certification for Brazil?

If your product is regulated by INMETRO, yes. This covers many products such as toys, appliances and electrical goods. Radio and telecom devices also need ANATEL approval, and cosmetics need ANVISA rules. We check which apply.

Do you have an office in Latin America?

No. Our home base is Europe. For Mexico and Brazil we find and contact importers and distributors and prepare offers; customs and conformity are handled with the local importer.

Is Latin America worth it for a Chinese factory?

It can be, if your price still works after duties and taxes and an importer can handle certification. For most factories Europe comes first. The market assessment shows this before you commit.
